This unique WWII trench art sculpture pays homage to the famous Lockheed P-38 Lightning. The renowned P-38 shot down the most Japanese fighters and was given the moniker Fork-Tailed Devil by the Germans. The sculpture’s fuselage, engine nacelles, and pylon are fashioned from .50 caliber rounds, which the P-38 fired from its four machine guns. The tail booms are crafted from .30 caliber rounds. The plinth is machined from a 1942 90 mm shell casing from either an M26 Pershing or M36 Tank Destroyer. This elegantly proportioned artwork is one-of-a-kind.
