Biography: Benfield's paintings are drawn rapidly with an almost passionate urgency. Many sketches are immediately discarded, only those that feel right, that have integrity are presented to the public.  This ensures that his work is dynamic yet maintains a strong organic unity. Few artists can, as well as Benfield, capture the sense of movement, both physical and emotional.  After leaving the academic world he set up his own studio near London and concentrated on drawing and painting figures. Within a few years his work was collected throughout Europe and his reputation firmly established.
